Amatullah Saleem and Lois Roewade
Amatullah Saleem preserves the history and culture of Happy Hill. She is a storyteller, educator and the founder of Otesha Dance Ensemble. “We live in different worlds that often dictate our relationships. However, internally we find few differences.”
Lois Roewade is active in civic engagement, her work ranging from neighborhood to national issues. She is a champion of women’s rights and arts education.

Everyone should know that Amatullah is passionate about preserving the history and culture of Happy Hill, and furthering youth arts education. I tried to capture this through having her move, having her think about how she felt when dancing and joyful moments she experienced through her dance career.

Lois is involved in politics and women’s rights in Winston-Salem. I think that everyone should know that she is a sincere and real person in everything that she approaches in her life. I wanted to capture her spirit, the beauty of being a woman and the inner expression that flashes upon her face.
